How to get rid of fleas on a kitten

Meet Tiger. Tiger is a kitten who was born to an outdoor mother cat. For a long time, my husband (who is not a cat person) refused to even discuss the idea of adding a kitten to our "pet family" (we already have a German Shepherd and a bunny), and then, one day, he completely surprised me when a friend of his showed up with the adorable little kitten. The last time I had a cat I was eight or nine, so I knew very little of how to take care of a baby cat, especially one who was born and spent the first few weeks of his life outside. When I first checked our kitten for fleas, he didn't seem to have any. A week later, Tiger was covered in these disgusting little creatures - he must have inherited some flea eggs from his mother cat... So I was faced with a challenge - how to get rid of fleas on a kitten.

Here are some of the flea killing products I tried. But they were a temporary fix, and the flea problem persisted. Since our kitten had fleas when he was really young, I had a very limited number of flea killing products to choose from. First, I washed all bedding and used the Flea and tick powder on all carpets. I repeated the procedure several times and vacuumed carpets every day. Just when I thought we won the battle, the fleas came back... I also tried to dust Tiger with diatomaceous earth a few times, but that didn't seem to bother fleas at all - I was really starting to wonder if we were dealing with a special type of fleas that could survive just about anything. Flea bomb was out of the question for me - I really don't think it's good to use it in a house. So I got some flea killing shampoo, a flea comb, and Bayer Advantage II for kittens - by then Tiger was 10 weeks old, and I was able to try a few new products. The combination of flea killing shampoo, topical flea and tick treatment, and combing a kitten with flea comb seemed to work for everyone else, but me! I was getting really frustrated and desperate. I am not a flea person, by any means. In fact, this was the first time I had to deal with a flea infestation, and seeing fleas in your house for several months in a row can drive a person completely insane. I was desperate to find a cure and figure out how to get rid of fleas on a kitten!

I did a lot of research to find something that would finally help me get rid of fleas in the house, save my kitten from the blood sucking insects, and give me peace of mind. I don't remember which forum I ended up at after a Google search, but one of the forum participants suggested this great product that is very easy to use and works within hours. I now recommend it to all pet owners who are struggling to control fleas on their cats and dogs.

The reviews of this product were somewhat mixed, but the majority of customers who cared to leave a review gave this product a good rating. I was still skeptical. Fleas will start falling off my kitten within hours? Yeah, right... I have been dealing with this mess for months. But the product description stated that it was safe for cats, so I figured I would give it a try. And guess what? First of all, my kitten completely did not mind the medicine in his food, and the entire serving of canned food with the Flea Killing capsule was gone within minutes. Then, the same day, I noticed a few dead fleas on the floor. And when I checked the kitten, I noticed that the fleas that were on him were very slow and easy to catch. The medicine was working! I gave the capsules to Tiger daily for 30 days. Yes, I was so happy with the results, I had to go back to get more! Fleas were disappearing. Any new fleas that would hatch would get on Tiger and then die... Poor things... haha! I stopped daily vacuuming after using the capsules for a week. There was no need to - it was obvious I was winning the battle and breaking the flea life cycle. I no longer use the capsules daily. Though I still keep the flea killer capsules on hand, just in case.

This is Tiger at 9 months old. When he was a little kitten, I washed him with flea shampoo a few times too many. So he is completely not scared of water. In fact, he will take any opportunity to jump into a bathtub full of water. Please note that every time he gets in the bathtub, he really likes to keep his tail dry and out of the water. Oh, and the dog you hear in the background is Baron, our German Shepherd Puppy. Well, we call him a "puppy" - he is actually almost 5 years old and weighs over 100 pounds. And yes, our German Shepherd and the kitten get a long just fine. In fact, I think Tiger (the kitten) looks up to Baron (the dog) as some sort of a father figure. Enjoy and share :)

Please note that I own every one of this products, and we have been very happy with them. The Omega self-cleaning litter box has been a life-saver for me. It takes me about 3 minutes to clean it every couple days - no filters to buy and nothing to scoop out. You simply roll the litter box on its side, the clean litter sifts through a grill, and the waste gets deposited into the waste pullout tray that you can dump out in a trash bag. We have had it since Tiger was 3 months old, and I am very HAPPY with the purchase! We have the large litter box and it's the perfect size for our big kitten. And the Turbo Scratcher toy, Tiger loves to play with the ball and to scratch and claw on the scratch pad. You can see Tiger laying on the toy in the photo I used in the introduction. I also recommend getting a cat tree. We have the Valencia cat tree I have featured below. The scratching posts are great, and the cat tree is very easy to put together. However, at 11 months old, our kitten seems to be too big to fit into the bottom compartment. So I would recommend getting a similar but bigger cat tree. We also have a pet bed that's similar to the K&H heated cat bed, and Tiger loves it! And, since I decided that de-clawing a kitten was not something I would be willing to put Tiger through, we got the cat claw clippers. I would say the clippers are a must-have from day one, if you are concerned about the kitten messing up your furniture and carpets. I have tried the claw caps for kittens, but our kitten would get them off within a day or two, so they were a complete waste of money.
