Decide what stays and what goes

Even thinking about how to organize playroom may seem overwhelming, but the hardest part really is simply getting started. So what do you do first? Many parents start by going through toys and deciding what stays and what goes. Your child may have outgrown some of his or her toys and it's time to find them a new owner or put them away and save them for siblings. You can let your child have a say in deciding which toys to give away (or sell at a garage sale) or it may be easier to make unused toys quietly disappear.

How to organize stuffed animals

These days kids have an abundance of stuffed animals. You are lucky if your child only has a dozen or two of the cutest puppies, bears, lambs, kittens, Disney cartoon characters, and monsters in his or her playroom. Stuffed animals are hard to let go of, and, although your child may not be playing with each and every one of the stuffed animals, he or she is attached to just about every one of them. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to organize the stuffed animals to make more room in your child's bedroom. Here are the stuffed animal organizers worth considering.

How to organize playroom - Best toy and construction set organizers

Organizers like the ones below are a must-have in a child's room. Play food, construction sets, dolls, cars and trucks, and just about any other small toys can be neatly organized and sorted. The toys remain easily accessible and in your child's sight, giving him or her plenty of ideas of what to play with next.

Bin toy organizers - work wonders for organizing a playroom

Do you prefer cubby toy organizers with pull-out bins? You can buy cubby organizers that come with bins or purchase bins separately. There are so many cute storage bins available that you might just want to pick your own :) You may also want to consider buying square side tables by Ikea and sliding storage bins underneath to create table play space. The tables are perfect for standard-sized bins.

Toy box is the perfect storage solution for organizing kids clutter

Toy boxes are the perfect way to get toys out of sight and out of mind and give your child's room an instant makeover and a new neat look. When it comes to toy boxes, you have so many different options: toy boxes with your child's favorite characters to match the theme of your child's room, toy box benches with (or without) cushions, toy chest ottomans, and more.

The toy box is sturdy and easy to pull - even a toddler can do it. A great solution for picking up toys that are laying around the house and getting them to where they belong - your child's bedroom. It's a toy organizer and a toy in one - a kid favorite! Be sure to read the excellent customer reviews by parents and grandparents - just click on the photo or the link above.

How to organize toys in a child's bedroom - Go vertical

In small bedrooms, it may be difficult to create storage space and leave enough room for play area. Loft beds with built-in storage compartments and play area underneath the bed work wonders. The "South Shore Imagine Collection twin Loft bed" is my personal favorite. First of all, it's very reasonably priced. It has great customer reviews. And, most importantly, it's a great storage solution for a toddler's room. A 3-7 year old would love this bed! It's a bunk bed with a ladder he or she can climb on. It has a play area underneath with hidden storage compartment, and it's perfect for optimizing small space in a small bedroom - look at all the extra storage you could use!

I have a friend who was looking for ideas on how to organize playroom for her daughter, and she decided to go with the Merlot bunk beds featured below. She says the beds are of excellent quality, were relatively easy to put together, and she loves all the drawers for storing kids stuff. Also, they have been using the top bunk for stuffed animal storage. Whenever a friend comes for a sleepover, they use a storage bin for temporary stuffed animal storage.

If a new bed is not on your shopping list, consider a tall Armoire like the South Shore Armoire featured below.

How to organize books

It's nice to have a big collection of kids books, but it's even better to have a collection of books neatly organized and on display. Not only will you and your child have an easier access to the books, but you will also be able to rotate books better, instead of reading the same books over and over. Depending on your budget and the theme of your child's bedroom, there are several book organizing solutions. I really like the idea of organizing books using spice racks. Be sure to click on the "wooden spice rack" link to view the photos of how the spice racks can be used for book displays.

Please note that 48-piece puzzles will not fit in this organizer. Don't have any of the smaller sized puzzles? A rack for standard sized puzzles only is also available.

How to organize art and craft supplies

For a fast and easy way to organize art and craft supplies, while making them readily accessible for your child, consider an art and craft table.

If your child has a dedicated creativity spot and has easy access to paper, scissors, pencils, markers, crayons, glue, and other art and craft supplies, he or she will be more interested in creative expression through arts and crafts. Another way to organize craft supplies is to store them in labeled plastic storage boxes with lids.

How to organize LEGOs

If your child is into LEGO building, you probably have accumulated a big collection of LEGO blocks and bricks. There are many simple and easy ways to organize LEGO building pieces. The cheapest way to store and organize LEGOs would be to buy plastic storage containers with lids and come up with a sorting and labeling system or you could use Ziploc bags. Kidkraft and Tot Tutors make 2-in-1 activity tables with storage, playboard compatible with LEGO products, and can be converted into play tables for other activities or craft time. The tables are great because they provide storage and play/ activity surface at the same time.

How to organize dress up clothes

Does your little girl like to play dress up and has accumulated a big collection of princess dresses, shoes, and tiaras in her playroom? If you are looking for a way to organize her dress-up collection, consider "Let's play dress up unit" by Kid Kraft featured below.

How to organize toys in your child's bathroom - Bath toy organizers

As far as kids are concerned, bathroom is a playroom too :) Having the right bath toy organizer will not only help you manage and control toy chaos, but it will also extend the "life" of bath toys. By properly drying out bath toys, you will prevent mildew build up.

This Bath Toy Storage Basket is very affordable and the separating dividers make it easy to store small bath toys, soap, and shampoo. No suction cups to deal with and perfect draining makes this bath toy storage solution a winner. If you install it right next to the faucet, it will also help protect the child from banging his or her head against the metal faucet.
